Guiding Question: ¿Cómo te gusta pasar tu tiempo libre?
Learning Objective: Students will read and speak in the past using the first person (yo).

Today we had a class discussion using the handout of activities in the yo preterite form.  After some questions and answers in a class discussion, we used the rubrics and did a quick verbal assessment over what we did this past weekend.

Today in spanish class we learned a ton of spanish! it was a very productive day starting from the time we walked in to when we left.  One of the things we did today was learn about spanish from the past tense.  we reviewed all of the words listed above. We also all participated in a writing assignment that was very easy if you studied (the stories about the miners in spanish) (shhhh)  then we watched a video on south america.  It was called Amazing destinations, treasures of South America.  Ryan also said something funny as usual and every body laughed. The video we watched was very well made. and it was narrated by a guy who sounded like he had his hand plugging his nose.  I wish it had been narrated by Morgan Freeman, But thats just me.

guiding question: How does language "bridge the gap"?
learning objective: practice conjugating in the imperfect

We watched the updates on the mine rescue.  We reviewed the imperfect tense of the verbs ser and tener.  We thought of interview questions in Spanish to ask the rescued miners and either individually or in partners, we answered three of the 5 questions in preparation for our writing assessment on Friday.

¿ Cómo era en la mina?
¿ Qué hacías en la mina?
¿ Cómo eran los hombres por 70 días?
¿ Cómo eran los condiciones?
¿ Qué no tenían Uds. que necesitaban?

Guiding Question: What would language be without the past tense?
Learning Objective: TSW (the student will) be able to tell time in the past and more practice with some verbs in the past.

Language without past tense would be very confusing because if somthing happened and no one could talk about it then we would basically all have short-term memory loss. So if no one could talk about what happened in the past then basically no one would remember or need to remeber anything and everyone would be confused.

We practiced levantarse in the past tense. We did an excercise where we lined up acorrding to what time we got up. Then we watched a quick update on the miners trapped in Chile. Then we retold the story and you can find it on the Wiki. Then we finished chapter 3. We did a quick assessment over our new vocab.

Guiding Questions:  How did we first learn to speak? What would language be without the past tense?
Learning Objective: Pre-assess needed vocab and increase comprehension from context

Today we pre-read chapter 3 in partners and made a list of unfamiliar vocabulary.

We previewed a vocabulary chart that will start to implement next class.  It will be loaded and updated on the class wiki under White 4.

Tarea: Update your character study on bubbl.us if you need. Finish up the comic strip project if you haven't...try to embed on your wiki page under Nuevo Houdini.

Bienvenidos!

Welcome to our new class blog!  It is my hope that this tool will help everyone--parents and students--stay connected and informed of what we cover each day in class.  I will be doing the first few blogs, but eventually the class will be updating the blog with what we did each day in class.  This should help with illness, extra-curricular activities, etc that might cause you to miss class.  It can also be just a nice review in case you forgot over the green day what we did in class.  We will try to include the guiding question, learning objective, and any homework (tarea).

Each blog update will be titled by the date so that you can easily find whatever you missed. Thanks and please feel free to comment or email me with any feedback on how I can make this a better tool for you! :)
